Our Story

At The Local GP, our practice was built around a simple belief: healthcare should feel personal again.

Not rushed.

Not impersonal.

Not like you are simply moving through another queue.

Just honest, compassionate medical care from a doctor who genuinely wants to know the person behind the symptoms.

Like many people in Pretoria East, we noticed a growing problem in modern healthcare — patients were struggling to find the time to see a doctor, while doctors were struggling to find the time to truly care for patients. Appointments became shorter, waiting rooms became busier, and many people started feeling unheard, overlooked, or forced to “just live with” symptoms that were affecting their quality of life every day.

That is where the vision for The Local GP began.

We wanted to create a community-centered practice where patients could access quality medical care on a schedule that fits real life — before work, after work, or even on Saturdays. A place where continuity of care still matters. Where your doctor remembers your story. Where medicine combines modern evidence-based treatment with a human touch.

From acute illnesses and chronic disease management to joint pain, musculoskeletal care, weight management, minor procedures and preventative healthcare, our goal is to provide comprehensive care for the whole family under one roof.

True to the passion and character of the founder (Dr Barend D Botha), the practice naturally developed a strong interest in conservative musculoskeletal and lifestyle medicine. Many patients silently struggle with chronic pain, osteoarthritis, tendon injuries, fatigue, weight-related health concerns and mobility limitations — often believing surgery or long-term medication are their only options.

By integrating treatments such as corticosteroid injections, PRP therapy, ultrasound-guided assessment and lifestyle-focused management strategies, we aim to help patients move better, feel better and regain confidence in their bodies while still practicing responsible, evidence-based medicine.

But beyond the procedures and treatments, our philosophy remains simple:
